MaineBiz: Inc. 5000 includes 12 fast-growing Maine companies
Joshua Broder, CEO of Portland-based Tilson Technology Management. The company has been named for the seventh consecutive year to Inc. magazine’s annual list of the 5,000 fastest-growing companies across the country.
Tilson Technology Management and Landry/French Construction Co. are joined by 10 other Maine companies in Inc. magazine’s annual list of the 5,000 fastest-growing companies across the country.
Portland-based Tilson made the list for the seventh consecutive year while Landry/French made it for the second year in a row. Maine companies that also had been named in last year’s Inc. 5000 list include Sound Rink, Apothecary by Design, MuniciPAY and Vets First Choice.
Inc. magazine released today its 36th annual Inc. 5000, ranking the companies according to their percentage of revenue growth when comparing 2013 to 2016. To qualify, companies must be U.S. based, founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2013, privately held, for profit, and independent. The minimum revenue required for 2013 is $100,000; the minimum for 2016 is $2 million.
“The fastest-growing private firms in America are creators,” Inc. magazine stated in today’s announcement. “They create companies, they create value, and they create jobs — 619,631 of them over the last three years.”
The top 500 companies will be featured in the September issue of Inc., which is available for sale starting today. The magazine described this year’s top 5000 companies as the “most competitive” in the list’s history, with the average company on the list achieved a three-year average growth of 481%.
The Inc. 5000’s aggregate revenue is $206 billion, the magazine stated.
Tilson makes Inc.’s ‘honor roll’
In making the 5000 list for the seventh consecutive year, Tilson joined Inc.’s 5000 “honor roll,” a milestone achieved by just 2% of Inc. 5000 companies, the company stated in a news release.
Since debuting on the list in 2011, Tilson has grown more than 410% to become one of the top 25 telecommunications firms on the Inc. 5000 as of 2016. This year, Tilson ranked at 1,517, demonstrating its continued growth year-over-year as it ranked at 1,795 in 2016 and 4,000 in 2015. It reported revenue of $36.9 million for 2016.
“Seven years later, staying on the Inc. 5000 is an incredible honor for us,” Tilson CEO Joshua Broder said “As Tilson has grown, so too has our resolve to work harder and smarter, never taking our success for granted. While this honor highlights that we are positioned for sustained growth, the credit belongs to our 280 employees, who are building America’s information infrastructure every day.”
Besides revenue, other signs of Tilson’s growth over the past year have included the addition of 100 employees, including former Maine public advocate Tim Schneider as general counsel, bringing Tilson’s total workforce to 280 across 12 offices nationwide. Also this year, Tilson began construction on a new and larger headquarters on Portland’s historic waterfront to accommodate its rapid growth.
Tilson is actively hiring, and is currently seeking to fill 50 new open positions.
Landry/French moves up
Scarborough-based Landry/French Construction Co., an employee-owned company that was named by Mainebiz as the fastest-growing mid-sized company in Maine in 2015, ranked 1,715 on the 2017 Inc. 5000 list, moving up significantly from last year’s ranking of 3,101. Over the three-year ranking period, Landry/French achieved revenue growth of 227%. It reported revenue of $65.8 million for 2016.
“We are honored to be included on this prestigious list for the second consecutive year,” Kevin French said in a news release. “This is a testament to our superior client service and the dedication of our employee-owners.
Brunswick-based SaviLinx LLC, a contact center specializing in business process outsourcing and technical support services, placed 28th on the list in its first year of eligibility.
“I founded SaviLinx to deliver the customer service and tech support solutions that our customers needed the most,” SaviLinx founder and CEO Heather Blease said in a news release. “We knew that if we did our best by our customers and our employees, that our growth would follow. I’m delighted to achieve this milestone, and credit the hard work and support of our entire team.”
